The treatment of degenerative knee diseases (gonarthrosis) provides for the complete replacement of the affected joint and the implantation of a prosthetic joint (arthroprosthesis).
This treatment has the double objective of resolving the patient's pain and restoring joint function. The new prosthesis models have been carefully studied in their design, shape and material, allowing for the creation of more durable and functional implants.
Prof. Calori uses the most modern technology in the prosthetic surgery field. He currently uses bone cutting templates that are customised to the patient using an MRI of the affected knee. These speed up surgery times, facilitate the implant procedure and reduce the risk of error.
The results of these operations are excellent since the final implants closely reflect the normal structure of the patient's knee, restoring a functional joint. The Reparative Orthopaedic Surgery department he directs is the reference and research centre for the use of these modern prosthetic aids.
