Even the hip joint may require arthroplasty if affected, in the most simple cases, by primary arthritis (osteoarthritis) degeneration or, in more complex cases, by dysplasia and congenital dislocation of the hip or severe traumatic sequelae. The most modern technical surgery implant techniques are used based on access routes (side, front, front-side, rear-side) that are mini-invasive and according to the tissue-sparing concept where the soft tissues and muscles, the true joint "motors", are respected.
Using these methods, post-operative recovery and functional recovery are guaranteed in a shorter amount of time and with better results. Even the post-operative pain is decreased with better satisfaction and safety for the patient.
The new oral antithromboembolic drugs (that are used in these cases at the division directed by Prof. Calori), accurate intra-operative hemostasis and intra and post-operative blood recovery techniques are all elements that have dramatically reduced the use of blood transfusion during hospitalization.
